About This Event

In challenging economic times, learning and development professionals often find it difficult to justify their budgets or their positions within organizations. L&D, talent management, and HR departments often face the brunt of budget cuts first. This session will cover some ways talent development professionals can use data to make a stronger case for training and development.

About Our Presenter


Dr. Sy Islam is a co-founder and Vice President of Consulting with Talent Metrics, Head of Research for Kaizen Human Capital and an Associate Professor of I-O psychology at Farmingdale State College.  Dr. Islam has over 15 years of experience providing data analytic, training, and organizational development support to organizations in a variety of workplace settings. He received his PhD from Hofstra University in Applied Organizational psychology.  He won Emerald Publishing’s 2024 Literati Outstanding Paper of the Year Award for his research on gig workers. Dr. Islam’s consulting work was recognized by the Society for Industrial-Organizational Psychology, when he won the Scientist-Practitioner Presidential Recognition Award for his focus on science driven practices in training and talent development. Through Talent Metrics he has consulted with Fortune 100 companies like IBM and teams like the Florida Panthers.  Dr Islam has also received a student mentorship award from the Center for Teaching, Learning, and Technology at Farmingdale State College for his research with undergraduate students. His book is entitled “Leaders Assemble! Leadership Lessons from the Marvel Cinematic Universe” was published by Emerald Publishing and his upcoming book “The Elements of Leadership: Leadership Lessons from Avatar the Last Air Bender” will be released in November 2024.
